Landscape Design
For many, this is where the landscaping process begins. Whether your starting a new landscape, or making changes to existing landscape, a plan drawn by an expert is the way to start. In fact many many of the HOA’s in our area require them before any work can begin. Owner Jim has degree in Landscape Architecture, and has been designing landscapes for over 35 years.
There are many aspects that go into designing a landscape for our environment. Terrain, soil types, snow loads(and snow removal), runoff, and many more factors go into designing the proper Landscape. A well thought out and designed landscape is crucial towards the long term success of any landscape.
Landscape Installation
The Great Outdoors Landscape Co is one of the best in business at landscape installation. We come in with a plan for each step of your landscape installation. This way we can complete the project in a neat, orderly fashion as quickly as possible. We are also familiar with the unique rules and regulations each neighborhood in our area has. The last thing you want is a problem with your HOA, town or county mid project.
We also have some of the newest and most effective equipment to complete your project! From or well serviced fleet of trucks and power equipment, to our very new dump truck. For 2022 we have a brand new 4x4 backhoe tractor that allows us to get into tight and often inaccessible areas for other companies.
Landscape Maintenance
The Great Outdoors Landscape Co also does full service maintenance of existing landscapes. This is an aspect that is often ignored by many. What good is beautifully installed landscape one year, if your not preforming routine maintenance to keep it looking it best for years to come?
We preform everything to keep your yard looking its best day to day. From routine lawn care to weeding to pruning. As well as services that impact landscape and soil health long term. Such as aeration, fertilization and mulching.
Defensible Space
As much as some of us may not want to admit it, we live in an extremely wildfire prone area. But we can all do our part to mitigate the risk as best as possible. Keeping the area directly around your home clear of flammable materials, such as pine needles and tree libs is critical. As well as properly spaced tree and shrub growth, removal of ladder fuels and other heavy fuel sources. We know the state defensible guidelines as well as local and HOA guidelines. So you can rest assured your property has its best chance to survive the possibility of a wildfire.
Patios and Pathways
Patios and pathways are our specialty! Not only are we some of the best in the business at creating them, our crew loves to install them! We do all types of patios and pathways, Pavers, Natural stone, Gravel and Decomposed Granite. Occasionally a combination of several to create a space unique to your yard. We can also incorporate stairs and retaining walls to maximize your available space.
We always start with a solid foundation for our patios, so you wont have issues years down the line with areas sinking or becoming unleveled. We are so confident in our paver work, we even do paver driveways! Paver driveways are notorious for long term issues, due to the weight of vehicles on them and the abuse they take from snow removal.
Pictured below is a great example of maximizing space with a patio. This was a previously unused, steep hill side in Tahoe Donner. With the addition of a small retaining wall and paver stairs leading the patio, this customer now has an outdoor space that’s usable year round.
Artificial Turf
Artificial turf is another specialty of for us, and is a product that is quickly gaining popularity in our area. Once installed, artificial turf will give for a zero maintenance, zero irrigation, multiuse area for decades to come. Due to our harsh and short growing environment, turf is a great choice.
Artificial turf is extremely specialized, most other landscape companies subcontract turf installation, raising your cost. We have been installing artificial turf for over 10 years, we have the experience to do it perfectly.
Artificial turf now comes in several color and height variations. We can even add a golf putting surface! Check out the gallery for photos of a turf area we did in 2020 that has 3 separate putting greens.
Water Features
Water features are another favorite of the Great Outdoors Landscape Co crew, they are just so fun to build. Water features can create a unique ambiance, help disguise background noise all while providing beauty and habitat for wildlife. We do many types of water features. We do natural stone and premade fountains. As well as circulating streams, either pond less or with a pond. We can even tie the water feature into your irrigation, with an automated fill feature. This way you never have to worry about your water level. Regardless of the water feature you choose, we’ll be certain there is no water being wasted or leaked. Water features should only ever need topping off due to natural evaporation.
Retaining Walls
In our mountainous terrain, usable area can be hard to come by. A retaining wall can help you maximize the usable space on your property. We have built retaining walls for many reasons. Increasing the size of a patio or deck area. Creating level planting or vegetable garden areas. As well as retaining walls to make additional parking or RV spaces.
We build retaining walls from concrete blocks, that come in many styles and colors. Natural boulders and stones that are available in several color variations and sizes. Even lumber or metal, to create a unique look.
Irrigation
Irrigation is a crucial part to any landscape that needs water for plants or water features. Whether its a complex, fully automated system to take care of multiple zones of planting on your property with unique water needs. Or just a simple drip system for a few trees you planted to screen out your neighbors house, we can do it for you. Our goal with every irrigation system to to take care of your plants exact needs, without wasting a drop of water.
We also do repairs and upgrades to existing or outdated irrigation systems. As well as turning on irrigations in the spring, making adjustments and winterizing in the Fall.
